Join APT DC at the Museum of Frederick County History in downtown Frederick, Maryland, for an afternoon of traditional Japanese woodworking. The event will be presented by Peter Wechsler, a carpenter who specializes in traditional Japanese woodworking and joinery. The event will cover a presentation of Peter Wechsler’s background as a carpenter, the process of becoming an apprentice in Japan, and Peter’s projects in Japan and the US. Peter will display and explain his carpentry tools, no-nail wood joints and models. There will also be a demonstration of wood planing by hand. Questions are encouraged throughout the event!

Before the Event: Networking before the event will begin at 10:30 AM with coffee and pastries. The presentation will start at 11:00 AM.

The event ticket also includes a self-guided tour of the Museum of Frederick County History located in a historic Federal-style home. The museum is open 10am-4pm. Self-guided tours can be done before or after the event.

Parking: Parking is available on city streets and parking garages close by.

After The Event: It is encouraged to keep the discussions going after the event and grab lunch at Idiom Brewery located along Carroll Creek. Peter Wechsler will be present to answer more questions. Idiom is approximately half a mile from the Museum of Frederick County History. The brewery is located in the historic Union Knitting Mills building.

About Our Host: Peter Wechsler is a carpenter at his firm Daiku Woodworking in Boonsboro, MD. He specializes in traditional Japanese carpentry and has worked on project in Japan and the US. Projects range from teahouses to Japanese rooms and buildings, shoji screens, garden structures, custom cabinets, and furniture.
